2026 Lexus NX 350h: Edison Buyers Guide

The new FWD option, explained

Through the 2025 model year, every NX 350h came standard with all-wheel drive — there was no way to buy the hybrid without it. For 2026, Lexus split the drivetrain the same way many of its hybrid crossovers already work: front-wheel drive as the base configuration, all-wheel drive as a step up. FWD isn't a stripped-down compromise here — it's the same 2.5-liter Atkinson-cycle engine and 240-horsepower combined system, just without the AWD hardware, and it's actually the more efficient of the two at 40 mpg combined versus 39 for AWD (42 city/38 highway for FWD versus 41 city/37 highway for AWD, per EPA testing). The FWD hybrid is also, as of 2026, the single cheapest way to buy any new NX, gas or hybrid, at $44,175 before destination.

AWD costs $1,550 more at every grade and swaps the tradeoff: instead of a mechanical driveshaft to the rear axle, Lexus uses a second, independent electric motor mounted at the rear that engages automatically when the system detects a traction need. For anyone who's driven Route 1 or the Turnpike during an actual Jersey snow event, that's not a hypothetical scenario a few times a winter — it's the difference between confidently pulling out of a plowed-but-not-salted parking lot and spinning a front tire.

The grade ladder

Standard opens at $44,175 (FWD) or $45,725 (AWD) with the 9.8-inch touchscreen, Lexus Safety System+ 3.0, and NuLuxe seating. Premium ($46,100 FWD / $47,650 AWD) steps up to the 14-inch touchscreen. Luxury ($50,240 FWD / $51,790 AWD) moves to genuine leather. F Sport Handling — brand new to this powertrain for 2026 — tops the ladder at $52,650 (FWD) or $54,200 (AWD), the most expensive grade on either NX 350h drivetrain, with Active Variable Suspension, performance dampers, and the same 20-inch black-wheel styling package as the gas NX 350's F Sport Handling. Unlike on the gas NX 350, F Sport Handling here IS priced above Luxury, not below it — the price order isn't consistent across powertrains, so check each guide rather than assuming.

How it compares

Next to the NX 350, the 350h trades roughly 35 horsepower and a couple of seconds to 60 for 15-16 more miles per gallon and a lower starting price. Next to the NX 450h+ plug-in hybrid, the 350h costs meaningfully less to buy but can't run on electricity alone — if your commute is short enough to do mostly on battery power and you can charge at home, the plug-in's 37-mile electric range will beat the 350h's mpg on a per-mile-driven basis. For everyone else, the 350h's simplicity (no charging cable, no plug, just fill up and go) is the more practical everyday choice.

The NX 350h has generated some of the freshest reviews of the whole lineup — several buyers mention the exact 2026 trim by name. R.
