2026 Lexus NX: Edison Buyers Guide

What actually changed this year

Lexus didn't touch the NX's shape for 2026, but it rearranged the lineup underneath it, and the changes are the kind that move a shopping decision. The NX 250 — the non-turbo, front-wheel-drive base trim that used to open the range in the high $30,000s — is discontinued, which is why the cheapest gas NX now starts about $4,000 higher than last year. In its place, Lexus gave the NX 350h a front-wheel-drive option for the first time, and that FWD hybrid, not the gas model, is now the least expensive way into a 2026 NX at $44,175 before destination. F Sport Handling, previously exclusive to the turbo NX 350, is now available across every powertrain, hybrid and plug-in included. And the NX 450h+ plug-in hybrid picks up a new Premium grade, which knocks its entry price down versus the Luxury-only structure Lexus used before.

None of that is a redesign — the NX still rides on the same platform it has since the current generation launched — but it does mean the math changed. A shopper cross-shopping NX pricing from a year or two ago should treat the entire trim ladder as new information, not a simple price bump.

Three powertrains, one decision that matters most

Every 2026 NX starts with the same question: gas, hybrid, or plug-in hybrid. The NX 350 runs a 2.4-liter turbo four making 275 horsepower and 317 lb-ft, paired with an 8-speed automatic and standard all-wheel drive (AWD is no longer optional here — it's the only way the gas NX comes). It's rated 24 mpg combined and hits 60 in about 6.6 seconds. The NX 350h pairs a 2.5-liter Atkinson-cycle four with up to two electric motor-generators for 240 combined horsepower; choose front-wheel drive at 40 mpg combined and an 8.2-second 0-60, or all-wheel drive (which drives the rear axle with its own independent electric motor, no driveshaft) at 39 mpg combined and 7.2 seconds. The NX 450h+ plug-in hybrid is the quickest and the most efficient at the same time — 304 hp, a 6.0-second 0-60, 37 miles of EPA-estimated electric-only range, and 84 MPGe combined, with a standard 7kW onboard charger that Lexus estimates fills the battery in about three hours on a Level 2 charger. New for 2026, every 450h+ ships with a dual-voltage charging cable, so a standard wall outlet works too, just slower.

For most Middlesex County driveways the honest answer is the NX 350h. The FWD version undercuts the gas NX 350 on price and destroys it on mileage; AWD adds real traction for the ice that shows up on Route 1 and the Turnpike every January without the fuel penalty of the turbo. The plug-in makes sense specifically for someone who can plug in at home or work and wants most short trips to run on electricity alone — the 37-mile range covers a lot of Edison-to-New Brunswick-to-Metuchen commuting on battery before the gas engine ever wakes up.

Is the Lexus NX basically a RAV4?
